Wierd problem while backing up.
I will put it in gear, and then nomatter how fast the engine is going, or how fast I let off the clutch, I get this really rough banging. The whole truck vibrates really bad, it is not a normall vibrating, it is a BANGING. Ussually the faster I go, the more it bangs, but I do not like to do it because I know that that banging is not good for the truck.
My truck has a 302, with a 4spd od trans, the kind that you have to push the shifter down and then move it to the left past 1st. I have determined that the differential is a 9in 3.00 ratio.
We have assigned parking spots as school, and there is a curb and a 4' wide sidewalk inbetween me and the next isle, and sometimes I will just drive over that, but I have already gotten several warnings not to do that, so I need to get my reverse working right.
If anyone has any suggestions I would really like to hear them.
if that isn't it, set your e-brake, block your truck, put it in neutal and climb under it and start rotating/wiggling things (driveshaft, yoke etc...) to see if you can spot the problem. it could be someing like a u-joint or bad driveshaft slip joint.
When I told a friend, he said that it could be the rear breaks are over adjusted, but when he saw and felt how aggressive that banging is, he said that it is too ruff to be breaks. My dad's car has worn engine, and a broken tranny mount, and it does not act anything like this, but it is also just a 4cyl front wheel drive.
This almost feels like it is the rear axle jumping around and so it makes the rest of the truck jump around.
