Struggling up hills
Ever since I got it, my 1980 F250 Xcab longbed 4X4 has had trouble going up hills. It has a 400M and automatic transmission. It has plenty of power on a flat surface or downhill, but I can be cruising along at 65 MPH and hit a hill and I will slow down to 35-45 MPH. The engine isn't missing or struggling and the transmission doesn't slip. It just acts like it loses power. The only thing I could think might cause it is if the vacuum advance wasn't working, but then that would affect it all the time, not just on hills. We tuned it up about a month and a half ago and it runs a little better than it did, but it didn't help the hill-climbing problem. Any advice would be appreciated.

Check your fuel filter and/or fuel presure. Sounds like it is staving for fuel.
The other thing might be a plugged cat convertor.

Struggling up hills
1980 must have a carburetor? Check the float level, if not high enough the motor will starve for fuel as it sloshes around in the bowl. Typically though when this happens the engine cuts out. Had a 76 Dodge that would cut out when going around sharp left turns only. It was the float adjusted too low.
