Hey guys and girls, I got a major problem with my 68 F100. I want to lower it and have got the drop shackles for the back leaf springs but can not find any place that has any drop springs for the front.
i will get a lot of flack for this but i cut my coils and had my beams rebent at a frame shop. they rebent and aligned them for $145. alot cheaper than the $500 for the drop beam setup. i'm very happy with the result.
thanks for the info! it has been really frustrating in only finding ways to drop the back and not the front. does bending the beams weaken the frame though?
ive heard of a few guys doin it themselves but you are messing with the alignment of the front suspension. without the proper tools to make sure you keep everything exactly straight i think it should be left to the pros. a good heavy truck repair shop or frame shop should be able to do the job.
You guys need to take a look at your stock front suspension. There is very little room between the I beam and the rubber bump stop. If you install shorter springs or cut yours down, then you are reducing your suspension travel even more then the few inches that you have. That is why the only approved method of front lowering, is with drop beams. Ford made a set just for the 93-95 Lightning, to get it down a little. If it would have been ok to cut the springs and bend the beams, don't you think they would have? A dropped front end looks good, but what good is it if you only have an inch of suspension travel?
