Installing remote entry?

I just picked up a 2000 F250 with power locks. The parts guy at my local dealer quoted me $173 for the remote entry kit.

I can't imagine it's that tough to install. I bet the antenna and receiver simply plug in somewhere and that's that.

Does anyone have any insight into how to install the kit so I can do it myself?

Thanks,

aa

It is NOT a Plug and Play installation!

You can find the Ford instructions for all of the Ford units at this link:
http://www.gemsen.com/ford/

There are multiple factors on the complexity of the installation depending on what features your truck has and which system you purchase.

Good Luck

Thanks for the link. An interesting reference, but it is not applicable to the the remote entry system (only, no starter, etc.) that Ford sells. This I've determined by looking at the owner's manuals at the site and finding none that require the ignition to be cycled 8 times to program remotes.

The other problem, of course, is that the wiring diagrams are for 02 and up, and I've got an 00. But I bet the wiring colors are probably still the same. I could probably use it as a reference for installing an aftermarket system.

However, I'd still prefer to hear from someone who may have installed the Ford system or perhaps an aftermarket unit.

For $170 you can get a decent aftermarket alarm (installed) with remote entry at a car audio/alarm shop.

OK. I did misunderstood your question and assumed (stupid of me!) you were asking about remote start systems as well. My mistake, I apologize.

However, I would agree with Triton and Jake that you might as well add remote start and keyless entry, all in one system.

I can also tell you from going through the installation documentation that the power door locks are wired differently, if the keyless entry system is installed at the factory. Power doorlocks on trucks WITHOUT keyless entry are positive trigger, and the doorlocks on trucks WITH keyless entry are negative trigger.

Considering how much work and money is involved to install just the keyless entry, for only a few dollars more and a little more time, you can add remote start and/or anti-theft system all in one unit.

As I said earlier, none of them are plug and play and the amount of work involved to install a system is about the same no matter if you buy the Ford system or another brand of system, so get one you like with the features you want...

Have fun.
