ABS Going Out

Ok, I took my truck to a shop and they told me that my ABS Motor may be going out. My brakes lock up now and then and sometimes stick when I let off them. They told me it's because of the motor. Now how much would you think that these things would be worth? And where should I get on from? Thanks for your all's response/

I've a '94 Exp 4x4...from what I know, the '94 is a freak year for the ABS. It's HCU (hydrualic control unit) seems to be a "one-off".

Dealer pricing on the unit is about $1100.00, you can get a reman for about 400 plus yours as a core.

I searched high and low for parts to rebuild mine (bad solenoid) and no one had a clue.

The HCU has the motor and 4 solenoids in it for the ABS.

I went to a Ford only autowreckers and paid a $100.00 for a take out...I did come across a few on ebay, but after shipping it would have been a tossup, so I went with it locally.

But...just a few questions/notes before you spend your money...

Does the ABS light stay on? If so, then ABS is disabled...when this happens it's very easy to lockup the rear wheels....but the ABS light will stay lit when it get's the wrong or no signal from a wheel sensor (diasbles ABS) or upon startup on the HCU self test...could also be the ABS control module.

Did you have a dealer scan for codes?

If you have the ability to troubleshoot with a DMM, I'll see if I can scan the troubleshoot chart from my CD Manual.

Let me know

Ok, when I feel the ABS goin out there is no light on. There hasn't been. The person I took it to said that it could be the sensors but then after looking at it he said it's goin bad. Like I could be driving down the road and put on the breaks and I can feel them locking so I let off and no light at all. So, idk, I don't have that kind of cash. Heck, only 17, workin at a pet store.

How much would it cost for the dealer to scan the codes and then what would they be used for?
