I've done both MDF and Fiber Glass, MDF is a lot less work, and I agree that the MDF sounds much better. Plus will not take you as long to make the box. Fiber Glass you have tons and tons of coats to put on to make it rigid enough to function. MDF some wood glue and a nail gun and you are in business (nails only hold it until the glue sets).

eveyone has their opinion, mine is a nail gun is much quicker, I have tried to take a box apart that was glued and screwed. The glue holds much stronger than any nail or screw, so I use a nail gun for ease and convienence.

I agree the glue is the real key to the strength of the box. I guess I like screws better than nails.
As long as you pre-drill the hole. Otherwise the MDF just splits apart and it's not pretty or functional.
Never had to pre-drill, if the MDF is spliting you're screwing too close to the edge or applying too much torque to the screw. Just drive the screw till it's flush with the surface. A drill with torque settings is good for preventing this.
