302 -> 351w

I am going to replacemy 302 in my 91 F150. If I get a 351w short block, what can i use from my 302 and what will I need to purchse and of the things I need to purchase, what can I get from a salvage yard and whaqt should I buy new? Any info or ideas would be great. I was planning on trying a RV cam and possibly gt40 heads. Plus it will be speed density. Can I still use my stock computer unit? Will I need to change the firing order?

Thanks

Try to get a complete engine, the 351 and 302 intakes, oil pans, and distributors are different and not interchangeable. The list of parts that are different is far longer than the list of parts that are the same. You can however re-use your accessories and mounts. You will also need to change the computer.

Actually the 88 or 89 and up brackets are interchangeable between 302 & 351, at least for the PS pump and AC.

Sorry. Not used to working on such a late model truck. On 88 or less the the brackets tie to the water pump and the heads and thus aren't the same.

Try to get a 351 computer along with the intakes and fuel rails. Not interchangeable. Wiring harness should work. Exhaust won't work without modification. May need a larger radiator. Will bolt up to e4od ok but need 28 oz flywheel.

They do on the 89s too, they just got smart and put in 2 holes where the bracket ties into the water pump bolts, one that works for 5.0, and one that works for 5.8.

I just found 93 F150 w/ 351 and is 4x4. Not sure what tranny is in it yet, but will swap the tranny also just to use the ecu. Are there any good books to use for reference on wht needs to go with the 351? Will they show me what wiring nneds to be changed over? My dad and I mechanically inclined and can read and folow schematics so I'm not too worried about attempting the swap. Plus I know I always have this site for help. Any replies and help are appreciated. Thanks.

No books, the only thing in a manual that might help you is a wiring schematic. Best to grab the entire engine with everything (intakes, exhaust manifolds, accessories etc) still attached. Grabbing the tranny too isn't a bad idea. If you're mechanically inclined it is a relatively straight forward swap. Oh, grab the y-pipe from the donor truck too. Good luck!

How much time should I expect for the swap? I don't plan on pulling the donor motor and install it in the same time period. If I need two weekends then that is what I will do. Any helpful hints to the swap?

I have a 92 that I just finished the swap on, was 5.0 w/AOD tranny, put in a 5.8 out of a gen 1 lightning. Hooked back up to the AOD, I have the E4OD to put in, but it is going to be alot of work (lengthening driveshafts etc.) But the actual swap went fairly easy, most of the stuff on my year truck was interchangeable, so Iwas able to use the power steering bracket w/ac unit, I had the normal 5.0 upper intake before. And now with the lightning GT40 intake I had to modify the k&N a bit, as far as the computer went, I just used the harness from my 5.0 and got the mass air conversion from ford racing and it seems to work just fine. A major increase in power all around the spectrum, you wont be disapointed. Good Luck!!!!!

Time? That's a tough call, depending on how experienced you are, how many friends you have helping, how many bolts are rusted, how many beers you have etc... I think I did my swap in a week of evenings, but I'm not sure, it's been a while. I think two weekends would be a reasonable amount of time.
