installing 19# injectors
installing 19# injectors
hello, I've got an 88 5.0 EEC-IV efi system in my early bronco. It currently has injectors with the gray top which I think are 14# rating. The system is working quite well and driveability is good. It is a MAP system. I'm thinking of swapping in a set of 19# injectors (yellow tops). I was wondering if I could do this without any modifications to the rest of the system. I wanted to get a little more top end from it without screwing up my current systems programing. I've been reading that MAP(speed-density) does not adjust to well to certain up grades like MAF does. If anybody has some input for me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Mike
Any time you change the injector flow rate it must be accounted for in the computer or it will run rich (assuming larger injectors), MAF or MAP. I'm really surprised that you have the gray top injectors on your '88 anyway. Stock should be the 19lb/hr injectors on the V8's, although I think the six cylinders might have gotten the gray top 14 lb injectors. Do you know if the engine was ever swapped for a 5.0 from a Crown Vic? I think some cars used 14 lb injectors, but as far as I know, the trucks/bronco's should all have 19 lb injectors on the 5.0. If it is the stock bronco computer and such, it would be best to put the 19's in it, and it should actually be better. Well, I hope I didn't ramble on too badly and maybe you can make something of what I've typed.
thanks for the response, The injectors as well as the rest of the parts were bought on ebay so I don't know if it was factory installed. I'm thinking of looking for a set (cheap I hope) from ebay again and just trying it because your the second person who said it should have been 19's in it. thanks again
