Just out of curiousity I was checkin out what options are available to replace my stock Conti LT275-70/R18's when the time comes ('05 F250 6.0 PSD). Much to my surprise there ain't much available in the stock size. What are you other guys using for 18" replacements? I would prefer a true A/T tire. TIA.
I am in the same boat. My F250 ranch king is due to arrive April 4th. I too was looking at options for tires to replace the Conti's. I believe Goodyear makes a 275/65/R18 load rating E tire that appears slightly more aggressive than the stock tire. I emailed Goodyear to see if they had any plans of making a 275/70/R18 and their response "was not at this time". BFG makes a 285/65/R18 load rating D tire in their all terrain. This is about as close as I could find for a replacement tire. My concern is that the Conti's are a 10ply tire and I have concerns of using a lesser ply tire with the weight of the diesel truck and and any loading.
I was looking at some 35x12.5 R18 toyo's, I have an 05 F350 FX4 4x4, It looks like they would fit but i'm not sure. Haven't been able to find any feedback on that. There definately aren't many choices for aftermarket tires with the 18's though.
Recently I was at Les Schwab getting my snow tires re-siped. I asked about the 18's in a replacement A/t tread pattern and they said they had a few styles- Most specifically, the Toyo's. More choices should be available soon...
Seems like before Ford decided to go to the 18" wheel they should have checked to see what was available for replacement tires. And now we have to wait to see if the tire manufacturers think there is enough of a demand to engineer a tire for us. If they do, I am sure we will pay an arm and leg for them.
The eighteens do fill out the wheel well nicely though. I think that once all these 05 SD's have been on the road for a while, we'll see a flood of 18" Load Range E tires out there, and at a decent price. there's just too many new SD's out there and the tire manufacturers are sure to recognize the demand
I have been told by Ford folks that the 18" tire was a result of consumer demand. That inquiring of consumer input is what drove the change. I know I know, don't believe all that you hear but that is what I was told at Ford.
hey all i want is a better 16" tire than the general areri-slips..........LOL........cant wait to wear them out to get the yokohama geolander ATs.......let the stump pullin begin HAHA
Don't know if they are available for the for the 18" wheel, but my Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's have been GREAT. My first set of them managed to live 12,700 miles. My original Rugged Trails only lived about 7600 miles. I am on my second set of Revo's, and they hook up WELL.
Nitto makes a tire that would fit an 18" wheel all height sizes too. I ran them for a while on my old truck good tires. I think the 18" tires are 8 ply.
