Shock suggestions

They were so stiff that they were rattling everything in the truck, including me!! About a year ago, I replaced the Gas-A-Just shocks with KYBs GR-2s. Better ride all around.
Check out the Tire Rack. They seem to have the best prices.
I was told that KYB OEMs Ford shocks.

I have 6 on my 96 EB and I love the ride

I have a question while were on this subject. I just bought Rancho RS 6000 for my front quad. I have the Rancho 6" lift. The shop that put them on put the same size on both sides in the front. They said this is correct. But the shock closest to the rear looks like it is pushed up so high that is looks like it only has about 3" for expansion. Does anyone know what Rancho sizes shoud be on the front quad on a 6" lift?
I have 4 Bilstiens on my 96 and I have no complaints. They are the best riding shock I've ever used. I had Monroes on my Bronco prior to this and didn't like them, they felt like they'd gone bad after about a year of use. I used Rancho 9000's on my lifted explorer and they were pretty good but I still like the feel of the Bilstiens better.

PS - I want a soft street and highway ride and can give up the maximum off road performance. I'm not jumping the truck or doing Rubicon. I'm sure that a soft street riding shock will be fine for my type of off roading, moderate dirt and mud trails and snow.

BTW here is a link to a pic of the shocks that are on my Bronc now. They were on there when I got it. The label is not legible, but someone here said that they were not stock.

I also noticed that one of the shocks is compressed more than the other, so I guess that this is how it is supposed to be (someone earlier was commenting about that).

Shocks, stock?
JB,
I had a dual shock setup and looking at those pictured, I don't think that they are stock. Did some checking with Brad at Akins Ford. He recommends KYB (25 years there +), says most bang for the buck and to shop them on the net.

Proffutt the front and rear quad shocks are different. If you call Summit Racing they will give you the RS#s for the shocks the numbers are stamped into the shell of the shock so you will be able to tell which shocks are wrong by the part number. Hope this helps.
I Have A 95 . I Replaced My Stock Shocks With The Rancho Rsx's And I Love Them.i Too, Do Mostly On Road Driving And They Improved The Handling Quite A Bit.(i Also Did My Entire Front End With Energy Susp.bushings) That Also Helped With The Handling. I Have Had Them On For About 3000 Miles . Off-road They Also Performed Very Well. I Reccomend Them Highly. Fyi A Friend Of Mine Owns A Speed Shop, and He Has Them On His F-150. He Likes Them Better Than The Edelbrock Shocks He Has On His Lightning.

You did say that _something_ was different. So did you mean what I asked above, or did you mean that the shocks that go on the rear of the truck are different than the shocks that go on the front of the truck?
Please let me know about this before I order the wrong thing!

Like a "front" front shock and a "rear" front shock - one in front of the spring and one behind the spring? Are you saying that they are different then? They do LOOK different, as far as the size of the boots on mine or at least how far they are compressed. The "rear" front shock looks compressed about twice as much as the "front" front shock. You can see this in my picture.

I agree about the Monroe Shocks - mine were broken. Ranchos are ok if you like stiff rides. I replaced my Monroes with a cheap shock until I find the ones I really want to run.

I had a 84' full size Blazer some years ago. When I bought it, it had the Monroes on it. They were wore out so I replaced them (all six) with Rancho 5000. I hated the ride. That truck would find every pebble on the road and sway in a light breeze. My 95' Bronco has OE shocks and the ride is still great. When they need replacing I will install the same.
