Just cut the factory muffler off of my beast. 3 1/2 inch straight pipe for a replacement. I should have done that a year ago. Same noise level now as it had with the muffler untill you get up to 2500 RPM. then a little howl. Now with fuel at $2.15 gal, if it howls = get your foot out of it.
At first, yes...
but then I put it back in which helped tone down the "SCREAMING" turbo whine and made that part of it nice...
but the BIG BLOCK V8 runble was too much right under the LONG cab of the Ex....
maybe in a SD where most of the tailpipe is under the bed and not the cab it's ok...
but just for MY old ears - especially on LONG highway runs... Whew
I put in a straight pipe where the muffler used to be. The cat and all the rest of the tail pipe is still installed. "Hear the Turbo" Not much. there is a hint of a wine.
reinstalled my cat, just or ford sake, exhaust is much hotter, not sure if it runs and diff, had the egr replaced said it was plugged,so hopely all is well, can hardly hear the turbo now
Just replaced the cat and muffler on our new F-450 6.0, sounds and runs great. I searched the threads for the back pressure issue and couldn't find anything. Have always run str8 pipes on all our diesels and never had any probs. If you don't let a diesel breath you just as well get a gasser.
Veselyc,
Please excuse my ignorance but what is a turbo back "kit"? I've never heard of such. I bought a complete t-back exhaust but have never heard of a "kit".
I used to have a howl at about 1500 rpm....Very annoying noise..Took it to my dealer and they said it is the exhaust system... I recently replaced my system with a Silverline cat back system.T304 Stainless Steel. No more Howl at any rpm...The turbo whistle is a bit louder..this i like and it runs very smooth.....with more power and better fuel mileage..
