what settings do you use on the predator for dailly driving? and what for towing if you do any heavy towing? do you have an egt gauge, if so, what differnce do you see from the stock egt's. to the increased power settings? also, are you running upgrades on intake..? exhuast...? i have read that you shouldn't run this tunner without upgrading first... makes sense... what say you..?
A lot of talk here about chips and the predator tuner, I just bought a superchips, do you really think one superchips vs predator is really that much better than the other?

The Predator has 2 more tunes (1 altitude towing and 1 extra performance), plus it dyno's out 150 ft-lbs more than the Evo on the 100hp tune! And it only costs $30 more retail wise! (FWIW I'd never pay that much for the Diablo, when Ken has much better deals.) $30 for an extra 150 ft-lbs is CHEAP in terms of performance vs dollars, especially when you are already cranking out $350 bucks.
Toss in that the Predator is the only one capable of downloading custom tunes (read propane, nitro, ect) and updates via your PC, makes the Diablo Predator the best bang for your buck! All the others have to be sent in on your dime.
Don't forget that the Predator allows YOU to choose the shifting firmness, while on the others you are stuck with whatever the tuner puts in.
Sure, the Evo measures performance times, but who really cares??? I'd really much rather have the extra tunes and the extra 150 ft-lbs!
I spent 2 long weeks looking at options for my 7.3L and the Predator is what I choose.
You can run the Predator with out upgrades....but on the hotter tunes you should have some gauges at a minimum.
Currently the only mod on my 7.3L is the tuner which I currently run on the 60HP tune. I wouldn't run any hotter tunes for very long on a stock setup.
The 60hp tune alone is more than enough to leave ricers wondering what the "beep" happened!
You can run the 100hp without guages only if you are very carefull...this is something that I don't recomend untill you get a pyro gauge at minimum.
I've yet to do any heavier towing other than my 16' Fiberglass bass boat and gear...maybe 4K dripping wet.
Here's Diablo's towing guidelines:
Stock Tune: with adjustable speed limiters. Speed limiter to approximately 120 MPH varies based on vehicle set-up weight, tire size, 2wd vs. 4wd, etc.
40 RWHP and 100-ft/lb TQ - Tow Tune, made specifically for towing. DiabloSport recommended weight limitations based on manufacturer suggested limits for the vehicle.
60 RWHP and 155-ft/lb TQ - Economy Performance Tune, designed for Economy and Performance, fuel economy depends solely on driving style, and will vary from vehicle to vehicle. DiabloSport recommended weight limitations of 8,000 Lbs.
85 RWHP and 198-ft/lb TQ - Performance Tune, designed specifically for performance street driving. DiabloSport recommends this tune not be used for towing.
100 RWHP and 215-ft/lb TQ - XPerformance Tune, designed specifically for opening a can of whoop-*** (pardon the expression). DiabloSport recommends this tune not be used for towing.

They both tune very well. In my mind, its all the little things that make the Predator the better tuner.
do you like your predator?Did you notice a decent improvement say on the 60hp setting
I just installed the 60HP yesterday, OMG!!!!!!! It totally woke the truck up. Never thought I could powerbrake with 285's on. What a difference it made in pick up, midrange. That was the first time that truck has thrown me back into the seat. i can't wait for the pillar pod so I can play with the 80HP setting.
My Predator isacting crazy. When set to the 60HP tune, it gives a Glow Plug Relay/Circuit error code. If I set the tune to Tow and clear the error code, it doesn't come back.
Any ideas, guys? (I purchased the Predator Dec 2004)
So what kind of MPG have you been getting superrangerman?
I have been having trouble getting accurate mpg readings. I've finally got frusturated and filled the tank to the brim (I hate doing this) just to try to get a accurate reading.
I just took the truck on 800 mi trip, with 400 towing my boat. I can tell you that the total gallons used was about 5 gallons less than my 5.4L F150 making the same trip, FWIW.
I do know that I have been getting a solid 16 mpg of intown stuff by filling up at the same pump.
Right now I'd estimate that I'm getting pretty close to 20 on the open road. I'll know more in a few days as I'll have to eventually fill up again.

I know!!!
I was toying around with the 100 hp setting, and I assure you that it's downright spooky how fast those rear tires break loose!
I have also been looking at the edge juice/w attitude. I was wondering if you can read and clear codes with the attitude controller? it looks like the juice part is a chip, not a programmer like the edge evolution, is that correct?
Thanks for the info, leaning towards a Predator now, or Evolution with attitude added later. I think the need to change the tranny shift firmness is really important for me.
