Air Con Clutch

I have a 87 F150. Just got it and went to try the AC. Found that panel had power but pushing in the dash switch did not cause the clutch on the compressor to kick in. There is a plug with two wires going into the front of the compressor. One wire has a diode before the plug. Any ideas on what to check?

Air Con Clutch

It may be the system doesnt have a sufficient charge of R12 to engage the compressor or the Clutch Cycling Switch has failed . Those are the two most likely causes .
