I've noticed everywhere things are saying "chromed ABS plastic" instead of just being chromed stainless or anything, some of the chromed plastic looks good, but a lot of it flakes off.
they cut the chrome cause of cost, and tried to convince use no one wants it anymore, you can't beat a shined up 79 XLT with all its brite trim,. chrome is to human like a lure is to fish, ita eye catching, I vote chrome. the most chrome I ever seen was on a 1955 pontiac safari stationwagon(sister to the nomad)that was one chrome boat
I to was wondering about the chrome bumpers. I think a lot of trucks today would ;look good. The other thing is all these bumpers are plastic no a days. I seen my share of small fender benders with plastic bumpers and the cars have more damage than the cars of old when they had solid bumpers. I think the manufactors are just trying to sell more plastic. That is why at even minor accidents the carnage looks so great due to all the plastic stuff flying off. The old steel took more to crumple and had less debris laying around.
I too miss the chrome on vehicles, I have seen trucks that now get a chrome insert mounted the bumpers to give the appearance of som chrome.
Other one is weight. You cannot have good MPG and a heavy vehicle. Metal weighs more.
Chrome unfortunantly is gone due to cost & disposal regs (as staed above). Too bad... We don't even have a Chrome shop in Hawaii because of the chemicals needed for the process is horrid for the enviroment if not disposed of properly.
