Funny you mention that, my dad was just talking about that. He looked at my 93 XLT (chrome all over), then he looked at his 04 Ram SLT and the only chrome is the bumpers and grille. I gave him some chrome fender trim to make hime feel better .

Pitted chrome, rusting chrome, scratched chrome, heavy chrome. Paint and plastic is the future.

I'll take the character of chrome any day over paint and plastic.

I've got a '65 Buick Skylark street rod with many chrome accents. I love the way the chrome trims out the hardtop, and then down around the rear window. SWEET!

Wheres the chrome?

The chrome won't be back..unless we figure a new way to apply it. It's all about the environment and pollution. Chrome plating requires some strong chemicals and acids. The cost to keep a plating line EPA compliant is enormous and thats not even including the cost of disposing of the spent baths, which have to be treated before disposal. I don't remember the exact price per drum but it's way over $100.00.

If you want some 'real' chrome you need to get a 1958.... anything.

I usually miss the days of chrome on a vehicle, then I see something that's either way overdone or something with poor chrome work and I'm a little glad it's gone. Chrome also adds weight and cost.

xlt4me, I used to drive a 58 F-700. Not a piece of chrome on it anywhere.

I miss the shiney chrome that you can see your reflection in expecially on a long black Cadillac or Lincoln.

I miss the gleam off the wipers and hood stuff while I'm trying to watch the road. As they used to say, "If it won't go, chrome it!" You looking for rim to road whitewalls too?

I love chrome, but not over done amounts of it, I like it on the front and rear of my truck, I'm not into chrome wheels(too much hassle), would rahter have them painted white or black. I like the big chrome front bumper, and i'm looking to get a chrome grill, mines gray. I just like the shine from the chrome, just the metal look period is great

I like the chrome accents rather than having a car decked out with it. Chrome rims - sometimes. But chrome bumpers, grill guards, and nerf bars are good. I'm not really into the trucks with chrome fuel door's or that chrome tint.

1958 Buick Roadmaster. There isnt a sqare foot of painted metal on that car that does not have some type of chromed or polished stainless piece on it.

1958 was also the all-time peak in the amount of zinc castings (chromed, of course) used per car in the US.

I personally have no use for the stuff on a truck, and I dont miss fake wood either.

If you want chrome in todays world chances are it will be chromed plastic. Some of it doesn't look bad and it doesn't rust. However, some of the chromed plastic that sticks onto original equipment just doesn't get it for me.Some of it just looks too fake and ruins the look of a perfectly nice ride. This is just my opinion!Good Luck and Have Fun!
