Just a couple questions here....I have an 86 351W engine that I bought for $100...was running when I bought it. Plans are to hot tank and rebuild with some performance parts and put it in an F250 from around the same year. Does anyone know what the size of the carb is that is on it? I know it is a 4 barrel but I dont know anything else about it. Also...did it come stock with a Holley "Street Dominator" manifold? And what is the stock horsepower and torque specs on this engine? If anyone can answer these questions or tell me more about my engine I will be forever grateful! Thanks in advance all!
no on the stret dominator. that was a holley manifold made in the late 80's early 90's. as for the carb, i doubt it is factory, but there is a chance. on the choke horn, you will see a number like r-80457-1, or something similar. that will tell us the model number, as well as CFM. if it is stock, it will have a number like e8tf-..... etc.
Oh ok, I will look for that number.....just to clarify....my engine has the "Holley Street Dominator" manifold...so you think the previous owner bolted that on himself then? But yes....I will try to get that number off the choke horn. Also another question....where is a good place to look for a VIN/ID number on the engine....just wondering so that I can take it to the dealership and find out some more about it.
Thanks guys...still haven't gotten around to checking the choke horn for that number yet. When I do I will post and hopefully someone can tell me if its stock and what cfm it has. But still wondering about where i can look on the engine to find a VIN number....anyone know??
I don't think you will find a vin number on the engine it self,However you will find a part number for the block and cylinder heads.Look at both sides of the engine block and along the heads as well.Once you find these numbers just post them here and somebody here will decipher them for you.The numbers will read something like d7te-a2b (just an example)Now as far as the 351 windsors go they were available with a 4bbl Holley but with a Ford cast iron intake. If you need the part number for the stock intake I have one at the shop and will get the numbers for you,and I have 2 of those Holleys there as welll if you need those numbers. The 351W is a good choice for building.
That carb should be a 600CFM Holley. Probably a model 4180. It's an OK carb if you want to work on it, but if you're like me, you might think it's a P.I.T.A to tune or rebuild and decide to go with an Edelbrock 1406.
Thanks guys! I know what I'm doing this weekend! And big hoss......I wasn't planning on keeping this carb unless it was aftermarket.....I am going to be buying a new one.
