Have a wheel Question..55 F-100....What do you normally run on the rear end....I have the American Racing Torq Thurst II on front....I am really not sure how to measure what I need....I have the ford 9 with 3" wider Fiber glass Fenders...Rear is NOT tubed...I looked at the american web site and they have a 15x10 and 15x12...Not sure though.....Thanks for your help...
In order to decide the size wheel you can use you need to determine the available wheel backspace dimension you have. Put the rearend on jackstands so the axle is level. Remove one of the exist wheels, lay a straight edge vertical on the wheel mounting surface and using a tape measure the distance from the bed panel to the mounting surface and from the inside fender lip to the mounting surface. Write these down. You will want to have about 1" clearance between your tire and the bed panel and the fender lip. The tire will be about 3/4-1" wider than the wheel. Take the dimension from the mounting surface to the bed panel and subtract 2". This will give you your needed wheel backspace when purchasing new wheels. You can fudge on the 2" but that is a safe number. On my 56 the distance between the bed panel and the fender lip is 11". With 3" wider fenders you should have approx. 14". I would think that the 10" wheel would give you the clearance needed. Hopefully this all makes sense. It is difficult to explain with the written word, at least for me. If you google on wheel backspace you should get more information. BilletSpecialties.com also has a diagram for reference. 56FUN
superman, I put Americans on my 56 which also has 3inch wider fenders.
17x11's with BFG KDW's p28540R17 tires, I had lots of room but I am running 4 bar rear suspension. The only thing I would do different is 1/2 inch more backspacing.
Mine fit but are real close to fender lip. Wayne
