LS or locker

I have a 72 F-100 4x4, 9" rear. The axle code says it's open, but it has some sort of traction aid in it for sure. I need to change the oil in the rear end, but I don't know if it's a locker or LS. Is there a way to tell without pulling the center chuck? It always spins both tires with a little delay, if there is any noise, I can't hear it over the exhaust, but with one side jacked up doing the brakes I couldn't turn that wheel, just a little play rotationwise. Anybody have any insight for this?

Most brand name lube's will tell you on the bottle if they contain the L/S additive or not. Buy the one with the additive and you are good to go as it will have no effect on an open diff. Good luck.

If I jack up one side, and rock that wheel back and forth a few times, it will pop loose and spin with a little drag. Is this typical of a lunchbox locker? I know it has a traction aid of some sort, any time I make a sharp turn in a parking lot, it spins the inside tire a little, and the truck always wants to go sideways in the rain.

Sounds like a locker to me. If it's a locker, it doesn't matter what kind of fluid (with or without the additive), as long as there's fluid in it.
