Yep, I have a 2004 Ranger XL 5 speed, 2wd. I get 28 MPG (that's imperial by the way) or 9.3L/100km.

My Elantra GT (4 cyl auto) gets 30mpg.

Pretty good for a truck.

I read in a Motor Tend mag a few month back something about the Ranger being redone in 2007 or 2010. I can't remember. Also said that Ford was thinking about a Ranger SVT. Now maybe it became the 2007 SprotTrac SVT. This info is like 2 or 3 month old. It was also talking bout the next F150.

I was talking to a Ford engineer at lunch yesterday. He said he'd heard that Ford was contemplating bringing that Asian market Ranger over here as a replacement because they could do it cheap. But that truck is poor substitute for a "proper" truck. If Ford has gone through the effort of making a pick-up version of the new Explorer (ie the new Sport Trac), I don't see why they can't fit a live axle under it, lengthen the bed and shorten the cab and voila! New Ranger, and it can house a V8 too. Seems like it ought to be straight forward. But apparently, Ford isn't willing to spend any extra money on it...

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but Dodge just redesigned the dakota. looks like the durangos now.

Anyone seen one of these honda ridgelines? Its the same format as a Chevy avalanche. Saw one on the road the other day, didn't even know they were making one. Heard no mention of it in Car and driver, print, or tv ads.

Don't send for the preacher just yet. Ranger is the best selling small truck for 17 years. A great entry level vehicle for youth, and can haul a Harley if you leave the tailgate down.
But development takes money, and nobody has too much of that lately. When it comes to certain parts, the customer doesn't care what they look like. Is your horn attractive? Is your air bag the latest color? Our government should help our own industry a little more than it does. Hy-brid and diesel technology could be shared. (I've seen that Mexican diesel Ranger and you would want one!)

Here's what edmunds.com has to say about the Ranger...

Old, tired and completely outclassed by its competition, the Ranger only deserves a look if you're content with a cheap price and passable performance.

I couldn't agree more. Looks like when I'm ready to buy a new truck this May, I'm heading to the Toyota or Nissan Dealership.

Look at the new Dakotas and Colorado they look absolutly hitious. The Ford Ranger has the best looks out of the big 3 so I bet that Ford gets customers just for that. I personally like the look of the current Ranger it is a good looking truck. When they decide to change the "look" of the Ranger I hope they keep the same motors but an V8 in the mix. The motor in these Rangers are real reliable so I am verry happy with the motors out now. I personally dont like crawing under my truck every week because of the cost and the pain even though I love working on cars it does cost money

The more often they do a redesign, the more often they will increase the price.

Nissan's 265-hp super charged six sure does make the ranger seem weak...they need a better engine.

what r u thinking rkelachim1 the ranger doesnt need to be changed at all except for going back to I-beams!! like my 97 ranger. if something is perfect it doesnt need to be updated and if u want something bigger get a F-150!
