Hello, can anyone recommend a good scan tool for eec IV is there also a good one that can test eec v and also brand x's? Don't mind spending a few clams to get the right tool. Thanx all, hope ye had a greet saint Paddy's.
Snap-On is what I have. Look in the pawn shops they are full of them. Wheel and deal cause they gets lots of them with every kind of module you can think of.
Unless you get a more expensive scanner such as a Snap-On you probably won't find one that will do both EEC-IV and EEC-V.
One option would be a PDA based tool such as at www.diagtek.com
Muffinman what did you pay for yours?

I got it for $200.00 in the case with 3 Modules. It looked new with all the manuals and cables.
If Muffinman got a SnapOn Deluxe Scanner (Red case, four line LED, black carrying case), he got an absolutely super deal. Those are about $ 2,000 or more new.
You can get codes using an analog voltmeter. Most manuals (Haynes) will tell you how to read them.
My friend has access to a Rotunda (Ford proprietary) tool and it tells you everything, but again, is very expensive.
I've never really needed to use EEC codes on my 1989. OBD-II is so much more accessible and there are lot's of cheap tools out there.
Finally, I seem to remember there being a way to use the malfunction (check engine) light to get codes. You have to count out the pulses, but it's supposed to work.
I got also bought a Snap-On 50" wide top box still looked new with all the stickers still on for $400.00, A complete set of Flank Drive Plus Metric 6mm~19mm for $80.00.
I even got a Hilti ATC TE 76 new in the case and two new chishel hammer bits for $400.00. I called my Hilti dealer for there price and it was $1800.00 for the drill alone.
I show cash as I talk price and the price drops real quick.
P.S. I know all the codes as to how long it's been out and how much they pawned it for at all the stores. I make frequent stops so they know I'm a buyer if the price is right.

Never use a Analog meter for testing harnesses. The voltage they put out will kill a senser in a second!
