Damn, and I put FRAM's on all my vehicles.
I've always liked em, but I do change them religously every 6k.

Heres a good link on oil filters.

Frams are very bad quailty, dont use them. Your better off getting a Walmart filter and putting it on.

I wasn't going to post this because I don't know if this was just a fluke or a worst case scenario, so decide for yourselves.

I had an engine go bad while using a fram oil filter once. It seem as though it gradually restricted the oil and the oil pressure suffered as a result. I was too young and inexperienced to realize what was going on right away, so I just assumed it was time for an oil change, but I didn't get to that point and the oil pressure dropped off to nothing at highway speeds and then started knocking soon after. This happened in less than a minute while I pulled over and stopped the engine.

What I did later was change the oil and filter thinking this would get the oil pressure back up. It did, however the damage had already been done and the engine still knocked a bit. After taking the oil pan off I noticed the oil pickup was not clogged and the oil pump drive was intact. So, to me I felt as though the oil filter had just restricted the oil flow somehow.

I suppose the oil pump bypass had gotten stuck and not allowing the oil the be pumped to the filter, but then I don't see how an oil and filter change helped at all.

I wish I knew then what I know now.

Sounds more like the oil pump was so weak (or the bypass spring was) that it couldn't force the filter into bypass...

I've used Fram filters and Castrol GTX for everything, including my 360/390 FE's (which, by the way, have the filter in the vertical position for 4x4). Many 100K's miles, no problems. My brother-in-law sells Fram wholesale to the marine industry, many 100K's of filters sold, no warranty claims. Everything else? Many warranty claims. Including Motorcraft. Can't deny a wholesaler's history as just hearsay...

In my modulars, I use the XG2 for the silicone anti-drainback valve, since I noticed my V10 requires it.

To each his own - but if you've been using Frams for a while and no problems, no reason to feel guilty

However, I must admit, they are very "light" in quality, especially the paper internals. The other versions are more heavy-duty internally.

I also thought fram was the best. Never used anything else.

run a search in the oil and lubracation section. The fram uses a metal on metal anti drainback valve it has cardboard ends. a lot of parts stores have them already torn apart so you can compare. The Motorcraft filter is a puralator with a different wraping on it just as the napa and the carquest are wix filters.

The last 5 Frams I pulled apart were PH8A's from my 390 FE - they use a rubber anti-drainback valve. You might be talking about the BYPASS... but even that used a rubber seat...

The Purolator's are something my brother-in-law HAS had warranty claims for...
