it annoys me when people say "prolly" or some other way to say "probably." is it really that hard to type out the word. im a redneck and even i can do it.
Prolly Like When People Post Like This. HI IT SEEMS LIKE I"M SCREAMING AT YOU BUT REALLY I"M NOT I THINK I JUST FORGOT HOW TO TURN MY CAP LOCS OFF!
I have people at work that type in all caps and it drives me nuts because i think they're screaming at me even though they aren't! They have to type in all caps in the program they're working in....
Protocols for web posting are constantly in a state of change, but it is generally accepted that using BIG LETTERS is considered "Hollering".
How long would you visit someone that always yelled at you? Or DEMANDED attention in some way? You'd bail... So would I.
It's RUDE.
And manners count for a lot, especially on an international, family based website.
I understand this - you bet I do. Often, when I think about how to put format on what I write, I wonder if I even need to do that. Showboating is many times the best way to GUARANTEE that nobody wants to read your posts again. It has also seemed to me that if someone is not sure of their information that by making it LOOK impressive it somehow is more valuable, but quality comes from content - not style. What is really in there? What does it say? Is this going to be helpul? Have I stayed with the original question, or am I going into left field?
I freely admit that I have writ a lot (and I mean a LOT!) of Sho' Nuff' garbage - and capitalizing it just made it more obvious.... (Hey! Watch me be dumb!)
Be subtle, it works five tons better! "Discretion is a beautiful "thang"...

Yes-siree, it does.
Wolf, you hit my rant button….<o =""></o>
Probably, next to Leet Speak and Text Talk, My biggest pet posting peeve is the looooooong draaaaaawn-ooooooout, overly opinionated, loosely quantitative, philosophical, 100+ LINE POST. You see this a lot down in the Ford vs. Comp. forum. I’m sorry, if you can’t make your point in under 50 or so lines, I’ve lost interest pal........on to the next post.<o =""></o>
When People Type The First Letter Of Every Word Capitalized.
This one in particular gets to me...it takes twice as many keystrokes to capitalize every word, you've got to hit the shift key along with that first letter. It gives me such a disjointed feeling to try and read a post like that, so I usually skip it and go on to the next. I have a problem with making a lot of my posts too long, I guess I'm not really very good at making my point clear so I spend extra time trying to elaborate. I've always talked too much anyway, something I've been told repeatedly. I was voted most talkative in high school, and didn't have a clue why! Sorry, I've done it again, haven't I? I'll shut up now! -TD
I never really thought of capitalizing the letters of a word as "hollering". When I used to frequent chat rooms, most shouted by typing in the maximum size font.....which was mostly done to get attention. I will capitalize the letters of words to emphasize that word only and to get my point across.
I hang out in a lot (alot) of computer forums (yes I'm a geek) you should try reading the l33t speak that these ubergeeks use. Its like a code that needs decrypted.
Capitalizing every word believe it or not, is called: Proper Text
What bothers me is using the Quote feature wrong.
It is meant to pick a part reply ....topic by topic.
The webmaster uses the quote perfectly in an ongoing fashion.
But, To just stick it in the post for no real good reason is:
1) confusing to the FLOW of the conversation because human nature is to immediately go to the quoted part only to fgiure out you have just read it.
2) annoying
3)un-necessarily adds extra length to a thread.
4) Also using it for the first reply to an initial post is the hardest one to figure out as , if they aren't replying to the initial post who are they addressing it to ?
No one else has posted
Yes, I've noticed that some people have a tendency to overuse the quote feature. One person comes to mind who uses the quote button for every single reply, and I have seen him, in some cases, hit the quote button to reply to his own post from earlier in the thread! I use it selectively, and delete all but the portion of the quote that I am directly responding to, as in reply #7 above.
Dennis, when you say that capitalizing every word is called Proper Text, do you mean capitalizing the entire word, or just the first letter of each word? I have not heard of this, and neither has my English teacher mom...maybe it's a Canadian thing? -TD

Copy the text from your post > Go here http://www.spellcheck.net/
and paste it in the text box> scroll to the bottom & click Proper Case & watch what happens
Okay, so as I understand it, it can be called Proper Case or Proper Text.
That's what I like about this site, I learn something new here every day, and it's not always about Ford trucks! -TD
