I put a new Pioneer cd changer in my '89 F150. sweet thing, pumps 200 watts out the back of the stereo. Anyway, trucks a ex-work truck,so it only has 2 door speakers. I took the door panel off and saw 3 holes in the very bottom of the door, and a "grill" on the side and rear bottom. Can I seal these up and what are they for? I'm getting good bass with 2 3X5's,but im really hitting them to get it. And soon, the truck is hopefully getting restored,so I'm gonna make the sound system kick ***,lol. Thanks.

I would not seal those grills up since they are there for a purpose. They provide ventilation and reduce cabin pressure build up. However, applying a sound damping material like Dynamat (or Peal-n-Seal if you must) to the other parts of your doors will make the door much more airtight since you are covering up all the other openings in the door. The effect of this would be a significant reduction in roadnoise as well as a tightening of the midbass from the door speakers.

As an FYI, your deck is not putting out anywhere near that amount of power (50Wx4). The actual output is in the range of 15-20W per channel. For the reasons why this is so, check this page out...
Then why does the HU dim when the bass kicks? You can barely see it at night. I just kinda wondered. Looked in the manual, say the radio does a constant 22 watts. And if whats said is true, you could sue these manufactures for false advertisement because I know some people buy them radios for the power they send out the back.

On the box of the HU you bought, it should say 50wx4 channels, and ALSO say 22x4 RMS. The difference between the two:
RMS is continuous wattage. Supposedly the HU will put out this much wattage with no strain all day if needed.
The 50w is what the HU will put out at maximum peak for a short burst. It will NEVER be able to hit 50w for very long at all.
So that is the difference.

Nice articles, thanks. Makes things easier. And I know a little bit more now. But Since the grills on the door are to release cabin pressure,What about them 3 holes in the very bottom of the door? I have 2 pioneer speakers now,but I want something new and more stronger,What kind of speakers do yall recommend? Like door speakers and the ones that go behind the seat whare the stock speakers go? Thanks for all the info,At least when I go to a dealer,I won't get confused and know what I'm getting.
That the HU probably isn't grounded well or wires might be too small for the constant 12V.
Also just for your knowledge.. I doubt your HU is putting out 22 wRMS. It probably only does that at 14.4V might check your manual for that too. They mark up their continues power handleage to get you to look at their product, but with anything, read the small print. It's probably at 14V, when most car's run around 12V
As RomerB2 said, your HU likely isn't grounded well or the wires might be too small for the constant 12V. You may want to connect the HU's constant power (yellow) wire directly to your (+) pole of your battery. Also, try connecting the HU's ground (black) wire directly to the chassis. I did both on my HU using 12g wire. Make sure to fuse the power wire near the battery.
Oh,Looked at the manual,it can run on 14.4V,(10.8-15.1 Allowable) Max current Consumption: 10.0 A. Grounding system: Negitive. It barely dims too,you have to look for it at night too,I'm using the ford wiring so that would probably be why.
