You need to provide more information. Year, 4x2 or 4x4, auto or manual, what you plan on doing with it. There are many people here who would be glad to help you. If you have specific questions about 1973-1979 trucks, your in the right place. If you got questions about a particular engine, tranny, brakes, body, ect. there are specific forums just for those respectively. Take a look around and do some searching. Often you can find info without having to post just by using the search options.
Anyway, glad your here and welcome to FTE. This IS the best site for Ford trucks. And the guys here are alright too.
IMHO, the 360 was probably the worst FE Engine they made. One of the biggest problems was that the valves sealed out on the VERY edge, causing them to need valve jobs frequently.
The FE engines in general also have some shortcomings almost all of which will not show up if you know the tricks when rebuilding these engines and are very careful in doing so. They are not a good candidate for being rebuilt by the home mechanic.
Personally I would rebuild a 300 and run it, LONG before I would put a 360 in its place.
just one little thing I've noticed about 360's. I find ALOT of 360s in junkyards and parts trucks that are seized up. More so than any other ford engine.
I don't know what it is about them, (could the small rods be the problem?) but it happens so often It's hard to ignore.

Like in your yard?
what are you gonna do with this truck that makes you think you need a 360 instead of a 300? Time and money might be better spent rebuiling the 300 and doing some gear ratio tricks.
If you are gonna do the swap, rebuild and stroke that 360 to a 428 and go for it, a big FE motor could be fun....

Good luck,

????????? First time I've heard that. Why wouldn't a good 3 angle valve job solve that problem? And why would the 360 head be any different that a 390 head?
I have a 76 4x4 long bed with a 360 bblk.I had the motor worked on.So I have to use it.My 300 straight six has to many problems. It is in a 78 4x4 short bed.what Am i going to run into?I am going to change the trans. But do I have to change the transfer case? What about the wires to the coil and distributor? Can i just change the bell housing? Will the drive shaft from the trans on the 300 fit in the trans on the 360? They are both 4 speeds.please help
My 76 long bed has a bblk 360 with a manual 4 speed. My 78 has a 300 straight 6 also with a 4 speed. It is a short bed.Is the best thing to do cange the bell housing and towers?Or to change every thing? If so what about the drive shaft?
The 360 already has alot done to it but it has sat.I put a all new stock front axle under the front. When I drove it the 300 6 got so hot it blew antifreez out the head gasket.so i guess i will swap them.I am going to take the trans and engine both out.The trans will mount the same right? And one is a 76 outher 78 Will the wires be the same?I really would like to have a fifth gear. What are my options?I pull trees alot so I need alot of gear.
