I was in a another town about 2 weeks ago when I got behind a newer Dodge Diesel Four-by(that doesn't happen too often) and on the tailgate was written:
"I'd rather be cummin than stroking" . LMAO. I'm not a Dodge fan, but thought that this was rediculously funny.

Reason: forgot half of my reply haahah
A bit of interesting news regarding this subject, Cummins is actually owned by Ford. As part of the purchase, Ford was not allowed to utilize the 6 cylinder diesel for an unspecified period of time. Instead they use the 8 cylinder Cummins aka "Powerstroke"

This is a bunch of BS.Cummins is not owned by Ford, contrary to what some people think.Ford Does use the Cummins BT6 (6cyl just like in the Dodge pickups) in the F650.The V8 powerstroke is not built by Cummins it is built by Navistar (International).Ford has never owned Cummins they did own a very small share @7% of Cummins in the early 90`s but just for a short time. The rumor of Ford owning Cummins has been around for a long time and is absolutly untrue.
Thank you very much for the link and comments....The sole purpose of a swap would to be increase the economy on my '76 F-250 4x4 390 V8/4spd. 4.11 gears, so I thought that the Cummins might be the better choice (2 less cylinders). Unfortunately the $11 or $12 grand for the swap is just not in the budget right now.

why don't you guy just buy a 84-94 na 6.9-7.3 truck and just swap them yourself the truck will only cost from $1500 to $6000 for the whole truck!!!! all the parts you need for a conversion.
