Need to buy a new gas stove for the kitchen. Current one is a 21 year old non brand (Premier) that was here when I bought the house in 93, that is having problems
Looking for a decent brand under 500 with electronic ignition, and prefer to stay away from GE, never had good luck with them.
Brands I'm looking at are Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Maytag, and Hotpoint. Any recomendations would be appreciated
I have a hotpoint gas stove with ignition I bought 4 years and I never had one problem with it. I wish I can say that about my lemon refrigerator but thats another story.
PWC: We have had several gas stoves in 37 years of marriage and found a Primier to be one of the better ones of the bunch we had .
We purchased a Maytag 9 years ago and found it to be supurb . Paid a few bucks more for it than what I could have bought some lesser ones for but the wife says it is twice the stove any of the others have been . Even oven heat for baking, better insulated to control heat loss and overwork the a/c in summer and they came in more sizes to fit the kitchen than most .
As an appliance technician/service manager for 20+ yrs... here are my thoughts. Anything you buy nowdays will not have the same qaulity as years ago. If you want similar qaulity look at spending $2000+ for a Viking, DCS, or any of the other pro-series of ranges. As far as GE/ Hotpoint, they are one in the same. I would also steer away from Frigidaire or any of their company product lines...Westinghouse, Gibson, Tappan, Kelvinator.
That leaves Whirpool/Kitchen Aid and Maytag/Jenn-Air/Amana... making your choice from one of these product lines should give you the best satisfaction.
Buying from a local dealer that has a reputable service/delivery depts. is advisable. Good luck.
Take Care,
John
thanks for the advice all, went out this morning looking and found a Maytag I like, so looks like I'll be getting that here in the next week or so.
Funny thing was I check all the big stores, Lowes, Sears, etc and then went into this small Mom and Pop Maytag dealer. Cheaper there than at the big name stores, and they offer free installation and removal of the old stove. Very happy with that.
