all right guys I came across a 1990 Aerostar extended eddie bauer edition.. been sitting for a year. Needs tires and a battery, a new bumper cover on the front.. and 2 very small rust spots fixed. The guy wants 500 bucks.. but the odometer quit(has over 100,000 miles). Should I go ahead and buy it to go with my 92??? what do U think?? Anyone know anyone in cols ohio that does good body work on these monsters??
nope.. not available in 90 not till 92 or 93 when the body was updated.. I'm just worried the car may need more work than it's worth.. been sitting for a year! Think I should still go for it?
Get a battery put it in and see if everything lights up. Then see if it will crank over.
If it does all that then get a can of starter spray and see if it will fire.
If nothing sounds like it is knocking or banging you might have a shot at a OK van.
Do you need any of the parts off it for your 92? If so, Its worth $500.00 just for the parts alone. As time goes by the yards are getting harder to find good parts.
Just today bought another Aerostar, incidentally (while waiting on hopefully finding a low miles passenger E350 with V10 and other options I want.)
Reason? Only 36K miles, like new interior, very good and can probably easily be made near-perfect regarding exterior, for $6K. Drives very well. And I liked my older Aerostar that I've since given to my ex. This will do the job of both a car and a van for the time being: nothing else I'm aware of would do as well for both duties let alone at that cost!
The Aerostar has always been a smokin' bargain for what it is.
BTW, the Florida dealer in question has many more low-mileage Aerostars in similarly excellent condition -- the Autotrader website would pull them up for anyone interested. That's all he sells, actually! It's his specialty.
