just bought the gray bottle of diesel kleen, and i know somebody has the answer to how much to put in. im feelin pretty lazy today, the military loves makin ya work 13-14 hr days, but thats besides the point. 01 250 ext cab short box psd. any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Dont take this wrong but it says on it that it treats a 100 gallons well just round off and say your truck has a 25 gallon tank.I think those bottles are 32oz so put in 8oz...8oz x4 fill ups equals a 100 gallons.
The 100 gallons figure is to raise cetane by 3 points. To raise 6 points I think it treats only 50 gallons. So I use 16oz or half the bottle it easy to calc/remember.
I use 16oz, give or take, on each tank full. Simple to do, just dump about half the bottle in, no funnel required, and enjoy the benifits of driving with 6 point higher cetane fuel.
I did that military thing for 10 yrs, so I know what you're talking about. If you straight divide the bottle (32 oz) by 50 gal or 100 gal (how ever rich you want it) you get 0.64 oz per gallon added. I do it this way because I never know when I will fill up nor how many gallons it will take to fill it up. I finally so the advantages the other day for the stuff. Hot rodding around town it went from 17 MPG to 18.3 MPG and when I added it for the hwy trip I recently took, keeping the RPMs always under 2000, I actually saw 21.6 MPG. I was floored and I know it wasn't not filling it up the same amount each time (I always top it off until I can see the fuel level).
Thats easy to get 3 cetane, multiply .3 x what ever gallons you have in the tank (or added in the tank) for ex .3 x 10 gals= add 3 oz of diesel kleen. if you want to increase the cetane to 6 ( .6 x 10gals= add 6 oz of DK) . so on and so forth. My calculation . Also you can buy the funnel with oz graduation from Walmart $ 6.00.
I always buy the big jug (96oz) and pre measure for both my front tank (10oz) and my rear tank (120z). I store the DK in washed out Pepsi bottles that I mark with a F or an R with a permanant marker. At first I was concerned that the DK might break down the plastic bottles, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. This way when I go to fill up, I don't have to worry about spilling out of the jug, or putting the wrong amount in. Just my .02 cents.
When you fill up add 3.2 oz for each 5 gal of fuel to raise cetain number by 6.
I always round it up or down to make measuring easy. Too much wont hurt anything it just wont help much and of course not enuff will result in not quite reaching the full 6 point cetain increase, also a relatively insignificant issue.
My biggest problem with the smaller bottles is that they don't seal worth a dang after you crack them open and then put it in your tool box. I always seem to end up with a mess.
I've been looking for a bottle that works alot like a 2 cycle oil bottle...squeeze the amount in that is needed, and then dump that small portion in.
Best way to do it is buy the bigger bottle and then get some 16oz coke bottles not the 20oz. Usually you have to by the 6 pack of them. Then premeasure yourself 6 tank fulls. The caps seal up nice and tight with no mess.

Quick question on this subject. What would happen if you dumped the whole bottle in the tank? I am asking cause I did this twice....was this a bad thing!

Nothing. The only bad thing is that it tends to get to be a little expensive.
Whenever I change out my fuel filter I refill the housing with straight DK. Many people do this and I have neither heard of nor experienced any ill effects to doing this.
