Problems with swapping to an Explorer rearend

I read that the 2002 Explorer rears have lots of probs...I have found a 1997 disc brake Explorer rear end I would like to put under my 56 F100 but wanted to know if they were prone to problems too.Anyone know?

What kind of problems have you been hearing. I also have a 97 explorer rearend under my 53 f100 with disk brakes.

There shouldn't be any problems with the 8.8 before 2002.Ford told us dealers to stop replacing the axle assemblies a couple of months ago.They are releasing a "fix kit" for the 2002 and newer vehicles on March 22.
