My 04 explorer rear axle is howling and is time for a rear build or new one. Is it possible to switch the expedition 8.8 IRS rear axle in because I haven't seen too many with the very common rear axle problem the explorers have. Or would I better to rebuild mine. If so could I get a parts list of what's needed and where to buy. Thanks in advance.
And when I say switch to the expedition rear axle I mean just the center section.. Im not positive but I believe all I would need to swap is the rear cover because the explorers I know are different just not sure on the front pinion mount.
pinion and ring gear bearings are standard 8.8 parts.. there are two additional roller bearings that support each half shaft as they enter the pumpkin, just a couple inches from the ring gear support shaft. I bought all on e-bay.
