Question 84 F250 computer?

Hi,

Just needed to know if my 1984 F250 4x4 is ran electronically by a computer or not? I'm having the engine rebuilt and the mechanic said this may make a difference on how the new "built" engine will perform(i.e. compression, etc). The engine is a 351W HO model.

Much thanks..

TFI/EEC4 is computer controlled engine
Duraspark2 is a module controlled engine (what you want)

square coil-tfi/eec4
round coil-Duraspark2
vacuum hose to distributor-DS2
6 wires to distributor-TFI

that should help you find out, my truck was a TFI/EEC4 system but i didnt have a 351wHO, so i dont know if there was a difference between 2bbl and 4bbl.

i dont see how the computer would change anything, the eec4 computer is not really smart compared to todays cars. it doesnt know if your engine is pinging or where the crank is at any second. the eec4 system is only alittle smarter than the DS2 system.

Thanks 84-250, this helps tremendously. The distributor is round with a vacuum hose to dist. so it must be the DS2. I'm assuming then I shouldn't have any problems with the rebuilt engine running properly?

I'm also wanting to strip the truck of all its smog pumps and crap (vacuum hoses everywhere), this shouldn't effect performance should it...did you do this?

You're awesome, thanks for the immediate response you gave.

the DS2 in my opinion is a much better system, less things to go wrong. yes you can remove anything you want, the DS2 system only controls the ignition of fuel. the engine does look better when its not covered in a golfball sized wire harness(if you had TFI) and a ton of vacuum hoses.
ask any more questions you have because i have already done the same thing to my truck.

no more questions at this time bud. The engine will be done in about a month so between now and then I will be preping under the hood getting ready for the install, and I'm sure I will have a few more questions in the days to follow. I can't thank you enough for your time, I really appreciate it.
