Just stripped my 56 springs and trying to decide how many to remove. I have seven leaves. If #1 is the shortest and #6 has the wrap, was curious about what benefit cutting off the wrap makes? Was thinking I might just remove #2 & #4 or possibly #1 & #4 or remove #2,#4,#6 ?
I also have some poly liner from Mid50. Does it compensate for thickness much? I think I would like to keep the stock U-Bolts - They appear to be in good shape...
start from the smallest to largest...#7 is your support leaf...get more of a drop by replacing with revers eye, unless your looking to put in a drop axel...
When installing the poly liner, instructions say to cut it 1inch longer on each end. What about the center bolt hole? Did you drill it or use a punch? I would think it might be too soft to drill well.
Thanks for any help!
I bought replacement spring clamps from Mid fifty. They are a 2 piece design and seem to work pretty well. Slide the tabs thru the "top hat" and bend 'em over like so:
Are there 4 leaves or 3 in your picture? Did you use spring liner?
I noticed while reading the factory manual that some trucks had 8 leaves
and some had 7 (Heavy Duty). I've got 7.
Does it make sense to remove just one? (#2) or (#1 ) just improve the ride and maybe lower it a bit?
Also, it seems the hole in the main leaf is not centered....does the long section of the main leaf go back and shorter section up front? I forgot to mark it when removing...probably due to the large amount of grease on everything...
