We had one at a parts store I worked at years ago as a delivery truck. Got passed by fat guys on mopeds. Timed it in the 1/4 mile with a sundial. But it got great fuel milage. I think it was a Mazda design diesel engine. Been a while!

We have an 86 diesel, but its a Mitsubishi engine, not Mazda. I think they only used the Mistu engine in 86 and 87, so it could be the Mazda mentioned before. Ours has a fair bit of geddy up (for a diesel) and gets real good mileage (30-40). It would pull away from my 89 2.9L 4x4 until I got up into the powerband. The only thing about the Mitsu is that it doesn't like heat much at all. We've went through 2 or 3 heads. Parts may as well be made of gold too, 4 pistons .030 oversized were $150CDN or more, if I remember correctly.

You can still get a Ranger Diesel everywhere else in the world except the US.
