I have read of one or two, but it's definately a common problem. Are you sure that the oil pump is at fault? 120 miles is a very short time for an engine to live!!

I just put a rebuild block last week I would say 300 miles or less i was on a test drive and lost pressure and the engine seized up .Lock up now, have to tear the engine down again and start all over.with another block .

5.4 dead oil pumps

99 E250 5.4 120,000 miles here...last week (4/20/05) replaced rod shells (#4 was gone, #8 wasn't pretty - rest of engine looked fine but replaced 'em anyway). Drove it around the shop about 5 miles to make sure everything was good then took of for home. 30 miles later I have a rod knock again. I have a very sneaky suspision that the oil pump is my problem taking out rod bearings and not just a bearing problem. Any one replaced theirs with after market or did you stay with "NOS"? Where is oil press senser so that I can piggy-back with a real gauge?

The sending unit is right next to the oil filter housing/adapter on the drivers side of the block.
