Well, I may be venturing into a new era of paradoxes and enigmas that the world has never seen! Dare I say it...I may be getting a V8!
I'm so dramatic at times I swear I was woman in my previous life.
Anyways, I'm looking a 2001 F150 with the 4.6 V8, SCAB, all power, middle consol, CD, 4 door, auto, 60k, RED w/Sport mirrors, stepbar, Styleside, and brand new tires for around 16ish. If the trade-in goes well, I'll be getting it tomorrow. I'll still be here all the time though...this is my life! NAY! My legacy!
So, anyone know anything about the 4.6 that I need to be aware of? I already have a car-fax report on it and it's about the most non-lemon truck out there. Absolutely nothing wrong with it...it's like new. BTW, it's also a 2WD...
I was just out looking around yesterday for the heck of it. I ran across this nice truck that I would love to have...one thing is for sure though -- it's a heck of a lot slower than the V6. I mean, it's like not fast at all. But hey, it is a SCab. Basically, I just saw it, talked to the seller about it, and now I'm driving for a day. I love the truck a lot, and I've "kind of" been wanting a V8 for a while now...but I'm with you RMan, I'd rather have a 5.4.
Anyhoo, if I don't get a really good deal on it, I'll be giving it back.
true4.2 -- dude, if the truck just "clicks" with you, it might be a good idea to get it. However keep in mind that with current incentives, you could get a brand new F150 RC 4.2 for close to "16ish". It may not be a Lariat, but it would have full warranty and "that new car smell". Unless I truly fell in love with a used vehicle, I've usually gone for something new just because there's a certain thrill with having been the only owner. Hope that doesn't make me a weirdo.
Don't worry about it not being fast. Remember you're gaining close to 400 lbs between the SCAB, V-8 and the Auto. Once you get your chip reprogrammed, it will feel like a whole diferent truck. Especially being an auto. From what most people say, the improved shifting alone makes the chip worth it with an auto. Too bad you couldn't have found one with the 5-spd.
Scott, my Ford dealership has new V6's that are at best 22 - 23 k. It really ticked me off how much they wanted for them. I couldn't find one cheaper than that on the lot.
AG,
I think that part of the deal is that the chip goes with the truck. So bye bye chip...
stick is great but with all the freakin traffic down here in south florida, anything other than an auto is a pure pain in the butt. I spend most of my day waiting 5 times to get through a single traffic light. and it takes me 1:15 to drive 8 miles home from work. that's like 6 MPH average. The traffic down here is simply rediculous and unexplainable to anybody else that lives anywhere else. South florida should be it's own country
Rman. Sorry wow, I didn't even realize that was you. I owe you something still. My memory faded on me and I didn't realize that you were 4.2manster, sorry.

true4.2 -- I was thinking of BrianA's post awhile back with the deal he got:
=======================
'05 F150 XL 4.2V6
3.55 rear end
Auto
no frills (manual windows, door locks, etc)
Air conditioning
AM/FM (I'll replace soon with aftermarket w/ CD)
A nice basic truck that has great potential for aftermarket improvements.
Solid red, and it is definately RED!
$15,800 out the door.
I'm happy so far.
=======================
BrianA's new truck price made me think that maybe some really good deals are out there. Also, sometimes when I'm dreaming of a new pickup for myself, I price out an XL with 4.2 and manual trans on Forddirect.com. Then I apply the current rebate to the invoice price (which give me basically Jeff from Van Bortel Ford's out the door price) and it gets me around 17k with a few options.
Homer, are you close to Indianapolis? I was up in Fortville, Ind. last November. A friend of mine lives there. Came up for the Colts/Vikings Monday night game.
I think I payed right at 15K when I bought this 2000.........Not that that matters
when you're talking about 2005 models. Nevermind.
