Can't find Brake Controller plug. I have a 2004 cc 6.0 with tow package. I have the wire with the plug on it I found it in glove box but I cant find plug. I also did a search but found nothing. Thanks for the help.
Casey... if I remember correctly it's a grey plug...or it is a brown plug...all by itself in the lower middle of the dash towards the floor. If you take off the fuse access panel it will be to the far right(towards passenger) just beyond a strut of steel. If your connector for your brake control is grey, then the connector on the truck is brown and vice versus. Just look for a plug that is the exact hook-up tto your brake controller..
On my 05 it was clipped up above the oblong storage compartment.Very difficult to reach. The storage compartment should pop out with some effort.Dealer located it in my truck. Why they give the wrong info in the pigtail package is beyond me.
Thanks for the help, I must have looked for that hookup for hours! The hookup is on the back of the small storage tray on the 05, just pry down the top side of the tray and pull out. The factory IBC would replace the tray so I guess it makes a little sense, the instructions also sent me on a wild goose chase.
Casey,
You may even have to put your hand in and feel for it. Mine was taped to the inside of the dash behind a bunch of other wires. If the folks on here had not told me where to find it I never would have. Also, once you do locate it, it doesn't move that much so it can be a challenge to hook your wiring harness to it.
On my '04, it is located under the dash. Take off the panel below the steering column, then look for the main vertical bracket that supports the dash. The bracket is to the right of the opening that the panel fits. My connector was stuck to the vertical bracket with a bayonet fitting, and it was on the right (passenger) side of the bracket. It was easier for me to pull the connector off the mounting bracket to make the hookup than it was to try to push the brake controller into the connector while it was mounted on the bracket. Its tight up there and hard to see, but it is there.
With each new truck they furnish a pig tail with a plug that mates up to the plug you'll find hidden under the dash as the previous posts explain. I has 4 wires about 18" long on it that you connect to the wires on most generic brake controllers. If I recall thet are Red, Green, Black, and White. Just follow the directions that come with the aftermarket controller. On my 2000 two 30 amp circuit breakers were included with the pigtail if I recall. These had to be put into the proper spaces in the large fuse box under the hood just left of the master cylinder and near the hood hinge to make the brake controller circuits hot. Good luck.
On my 2005 the circuit was hot from the factory.

Reason: Add something
Red, Blue, Black & White are the wire colors. Black is hotline from battery, white is ground, blue goes back to the 7-way trailer plug, and the red hooks into the stop light circuit. If anyone cares.. lol
I don't want to hijack this thread but can someone tell me if the wiring harness for a brake controller I had on a 2000 F250 will also work on a 2005 F350? Are all the wires the same or will I have to purchase a different harness?
