Went boar hunting in Iran back in the 70's when I was working over there with Bell Helicopter....
we were in a duece and a half tracked vehicle that sits maybe 8 foot high and I PROMISE some of those mean looking things looked like they were tall enough to be coming into the bed as they attacked !!!!
I would NOT want to be on the ground with those things snapping at me !!!
It may be true BUT, I have never known a hunter who didn't want to show off his kill, especially a trophy, to everyone he knows. This guy apparently took a photo and then burried it, kind of fishy in my book.
I know Russians boars can get that big because the world record is like 1192lbs. The biggest feral I've killed was about 6 foot and weighed over 500lb. Frankly, I believe they can get that big, but it would have taken a lot to kill that beast.
I dunno about Hogzilla, but, showing off a 'trophy' is definitely what happens.
Somethin' ain't right.
I took a 265 lb. wild boar in Tennessee, in 1994, with a .44 magnum handgun at seven (7) feet. One shot into his neck. That boar went down like he'd been hit by a sledgehammer!!! We retrieved the bullet from his left jawbone. (Quartering away shot.) Broke his neck.
Gooooooooooooooooood eatin'!!! Ham and sausage and chops. Yum, yum!
There will be special on "Hogzilla" on the Discovery Channel Sunday night March 20 at 8:00 pm eastern time. I think they have exhumed the remains to determine if it is fact or fiction.
From personal experience I know some domestic hogs and Russian boars can get this big given age and plenty of feed. Most are all slaughtered well before reaching the age to get Hogzilla size. I would almost bet Hogzilla was penned and fed for some time before his demise.
I have never seen a true wild living hog get this size although we have caught or killed them up to 700 lbs. Most are 200 to 300 lbs. As for food quality boars that reach 250 lbs are more are not fit to eat unless castrated and fed out for a while. The sows and barrows are usually good pork at any weight.
I've always heard you want to watch out goin' through Georgia - because hogs will wander right out into the road like a deer. And some of them will flat out stave in a small car or truck!
Yea that would be too intellectual a subject for the old Discovery Channel anyway...I think I'll go downstairs and watch American Choppers send parts out to be chromed for a while. You did get my hopes up! The discovery Channel has been playing the same old junk over and over and over again, I wish I could cancel it from my line up and save some money
