I have a 1992 F150 I6, and I am now attempting, and have been for the last hour and a half to break loose the EGR Valve from the Exhaust pipe that runs back up from the catalytic converter. I have used WD-40, and even let this thing soak for a day when I was at work yesterday and still using WD-40, and will not budge. I have even warm the pipe up with engine heat and still will not budge. With the amount of force I am applying to break this loose, I am worried that I will end up breaking something, such as the pipe, or the manifold where it connects. If anyone has ANY ideas, I would be more than apt to listen to them!
Just wanted to add to my post, I was reading a few of the EGR Valve Problems in the Forum and I can reading that you guys seem to be using PB Blaster, I have used it quite a bit at work for myself, but never really have sene much difference in the effect it has on the removal.
PB Blaster is considerably better than WD-40. I have used both as well. I replaced the header gasket on my last truck. I sprayed the 18 year old bolts with PBB a couple of days before and they spun out with ease.
It's a kind of magic
Hey, I hear ya there dieselsaurus, I just got the up-pipe removed and would you believe, 4 squirts of PB Blaster, and a littel force, no heat, it spun right off, let it soak about the length of a cigarette..I'm AMAZED!!
If I remember right, the EGR threads might be reverse threaded.
I know when I changed mine it was very difficult, but for some reason I think I remember having to turn it the 'wrong' way
