The story goes: Yesterday I went to my RV and being 110 outside I left the truck idling for about 15-20 mins with A/C blowing max when I went to leave I experienced slugish throttle response and a bit of black smoke out the tail pipe. After I got on the highway about 1 mile away I punched it with full throtle and no issue I have the high idle mod installed but didn't activate it. What is appropriate use of the High Idle mod?
I also thought EGR or turbo issue but i'm unsure? I do have the EGR valve unpluged but I haven't been able to remove the egr valve to clean it. Every time I unbolt it and try to pull it out it wont budge. Tried multiple times grabing it wilth pliers and pulling like hell. I've also put a loop of wire through the mounting holes and using a pry bar to pull it up but I started to bend the mounting tabs. It will spin in the hole but wont pull up I've tried rocking it out but I fear breaking it off.
well first off sounds like vaines in the turbo are sticking, and second , just get new EGR on Flebay and if you have to just gut the old one out, sooner or later you going to have to remove it.
and you turbo might need cleaning.
Hi Idle is for that exact reason, when you know you have to idle your truck for extended periods of time its good to turn it on, it will prevent cooking your turbo vains open and plugging EGR...
and i think dealers have special tool for the removal of EGR, like puller...
