I disconnected the EGR valve today as per the instruction in the post above. Engine off, pulled plug, oh by the way 2005 F250. Go to take a ride in the ol truck since I just got my new system installed. I was riding aound listening to "save a horse ride a cowboy" in my glory when I notice the check engine light was on. So I drove back home, pluged my preditor in and the 2 codes that showed up are the 2 listed in the post above. I read that it should not turn on a trouble light, but I was like oh well maybe in the 05s disconnecting the EGR will throw a light. So I clear the codes, engine light goes off and go for another drive (this time no save the horse ride a cowboy song) anyway, the engine light comes back on. Drive home again and the same two codes are back. So I just decided to reconnect the EGR, cleared the codes again and no problem with the light any longer. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
Thanks

Yeah the light will come on. I dont have the preditor by the way. I am waiting for someone to come up with a bipass for the egr plug to fool the computer into thinking that it is plugged in. If you can ignore the light, it wont hurt anything, except if something did go wrong, you wouldnt have warning I suppose.
Make sure to clear the code if going in for service by disconnecting and reconnecting the batteries after re-connecting the plug. Of course, I dont know if it would make a difference since you have already installed that preditor.
First of all that song might have something to do with it. Plug in Charlie Robison "Lights of Loving County." And it will help.
Nah, in a '05 the EGR is more improved I'd leave it in. IMO
I understand that the 05 egr is larger and doesn't clog up with crud. But I was under the impression that exhaust is simply a BAD thing to introduce into a diesel engine intake. That carbon in the valves and combustion chamber will probably shorten the life of a diesel engine. Is this incorrect???
Who me? If this is for me, yes it is California. I know full well about those nasty old EGR valves plugs falling off. I really don't mind it falling off either as it seems to fix things regarding performance. My question was if even if the the egr caused problems were remidied, would it be better to run without the EGR do to harm it causes the engine? It seems that exhaust gas and carbon wouldn't be good for an engines intact.
My Calif. truck has serious issues when the EGR is plugged in. As soon as I unplug it, the problems go away. I'm taking it in tomorrow to have it replaced. I will beg and plead for the old EGR so I can "fool" the computer...but the service guy already told me...with a nerdy voice on the phone that "that's illegal". na na na. Yea...the EGR police are on my trail. LOL
I will Loonatic...but they already know I have it installed, because the service advisor has the same truck with the Edge in it too. He is mod friendly...accept for "chips". He says those will void the warranty, but the Edge won't.
I ran into him the other day and he saw my Edge in there...and didn't say a word.
But...that's him and not a manager or mechanic or Ford Motor, Co....so the Edge and SCT come out as a personal policy when the truck goes to the dealer, anyway!
