Cowl emblems

My cowl emplems are all faded and since i am going to paint my truck so i want to replace them. How do i get them off? Is there a hidden, impossible to reach nut on the back or do they just stick on? The emblems i am talking about te the "F-150 Ranger" emblem and the red "Lariat" emblem. Thanks for your help.

My 78 has the pins that push in holes in the cowl. I think they call it barrel and pin clips or something like that. you have to carefully pry them off. Mine's not a lariat so I don't have the red lariat emblems. I don't know about it.
Good luck! Ken,

If the chrome part isn't pitted, you can restore the original emblems. A little red and black enamel, and a steady hand will make them look like new. Usually they have a lot of pits, though, especially if they've sat out in the weather.

Ya they are all pitted. THe lariat ones are in good shape, but the other one looks pretty bad. I have some that say "F-150 Custom" but i would rather have the correct emblems. I assume after you pry them off the new ones can be pushed on? Thanks for your help

Since your painting the truck fill in the holes and delete the emblems you know what series the truck is let others wonder .

The black paint for those emblems is Semi-gloss.

I like the fender moount emblems on the pre '77 models the best. I might convert to these when I get my truck painted.
