removing emblems
Hey people,
I have an 04 f350 and I want to remove my emblems on the fenders, and the one on the tailgate. I would like to know if these emblems are just stuck on with adhesive tape, or are they bolted on too?? I ask this because even though I can see that theres some kind of 'tape' behind the emblem, I once did see a SD without the emblems, but had two holes in the fenders where the emblems once were.. anyone have an answer to this???? thanx

Pure rock,
Go to my gallery and look at teh exterior pictures. I took the paint off of all of my badges and I had Steve at www.billetbadges.com make a few custom ones.

I used a putty knife to remove the badges. You just have to be careful not to gouge the paint. Lacquer thinner to remove the sticky from the paint, and dipped the badges in acetone to remove the black paint. My red XLT came off, but now my truck is just in stelath mode. Pics in the gallery.

For removing paint on badges, all you need is a $3 can of acetone, an old toothbrush, tape, and plenty of rags.
Most will disagree about using a toothbrush to clean these since it'll splash acetone everywhere but if you tape off a big enough section of the truck and are careful, you won't have any issues. I used 3" masking tape (doubled up) all around the badge (tucking the tape slightly behind the badge) and then taped some rags/old t-shirts in about a 4' diameter around the badge to protect the paint. Then just dunk the toothbrush in the acetone and start scrubbing. You'll see results instantly. I even used some brake cleaner afterwards to clean it all up. It takes longer to prep the area than anything, but it's more than worth it. As hockeycop said (thanks btw), pics in my gallery. Good luck!
