Hey fellas, I am dropping a 351w into my 82 bronco, it has the hole in the pan for the dipstick, what year trucks and engines can I find this from.
Also, the 302 I pulled ouot of the truck has the dipstick in the block.
if the two motors are pretty colse to the same year you should be able to use the dipstick. i was forced to use one from a 302 when my dipstick tube rusted out. the 302 was an 87 and my 351 is a 1991
Good luck finding a replacement that old. Most likely they will be too rusted at the connection areas to be able to remove.
Just about any year/style that has the correct threaded compression-type fitting will allow you to work with it.
Put it on, change oil and filter, add the correct amount of new oil (remember filter), see where stick registers. That's your new guide. Might want to add one quart less, get it hot, check it to see where the one quart low mark is, etc.
When I put headers on my 351W, in a van, couldn't find a new tube and dipstick at a reasonable price. Trashed the old set removing exhaust manifold. The dealer wanted $70.00 for a new set that I would have had to modify, anyway. Had to make my own dip stick out of a length of the correct diameter brake tubing (Napa, $6.99). It came with the correct threaded connector to screw into the pan. With a tubing bender and tube cutter (and another piece of brake line cause I got carried away cutting the first one) I finally got an acceptable oil dipstick system using the original stick.
