I am looking to purchase a 1995 – 1997 F350 to carry a 2500 lbs 9 ft camper and 1000lbs of people and gear. It seems as though I can’t do that with a diesel, 4X4, Supercrew as I will exceed the GVRW. I don’t want a regular cab, and a extend cab is not available in F350. I am finding it hard to find information on carrying capacities and am relying on new truck specifications to get me close. I am hoping to learn from some people that have these trucks and carry campers with them. Obviously going with dual rear wheel will help, but I don’t think you can get them in 4X4 in that year.
You can't get a 4X4 dually in the '95 model, but you could beginning in '96. Technically, you'd be overloaded with a 2500lb camper and 1000lbs of people. My '95 crewcab weighs 7200lbs empty. If I removed my in-bed toolbox, I'd drop the weight down to around 7000lbs. My GVW is 9200lbs, so I can put 2200lbs total into the truck before I hit GVW. That doesn't mean the truck won't accept more weight. People do it all the time. The previous owner of my truck had a 11' camper in the back, that's why I've got airbags at all four corners.
If you really don't want to exceed the GVW, you'll need a bigger truck, like an F450 or F550. But people overload their trucks all the time. Drive through a campground some time, and notice how many people tow a 30' fifth wheel with a 1/2 ton truck.
