I have a 2000 F150, 5.4, that runs as if it is need of a major tuneup! It idles smoothly a little above the 1 on the tach; however, drives very rough. When I accelerate, the truck feels like it is going to vibrate apart. If I punch it, the ride smoothes out! I replaced the fuel filter and the check engine light has come on constantly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
How many miles are on your truck? If you are close to 100,000 miles it is time for new plugs. If not, you may have a cop (coil on plug) going bad. Is the check engine light on solid or does it flash when it is vibrating? I recommend taking it to get scanned.
I plan to start with the spark plugs tomorrow! If the injectors are dirty, how do I clean them? Thanks for your help and I will be typing for more assistance!
It's done! Switched #1 & #2 COPs with #7 & #8 and changed spark plugs. She rans great, right, for a little while. Misfiring between 50 and 70 mph. Drove for 65 miles and could not get it tested (no CEL). Finally, got the light and Auto Zone says "P0307" is where my problem lies. Replaced the #7 COP and she is running great again with no misfiring, yet!
