heater blower problem...

i recently aquired a 1996 ranger with several electrical problems (cheap)... i've managed to solve all but one... the heater blower does not work (near essential in Ohio in the winter time)... having consulted the faithful Haynes manual, i find that they do not show the heater wiring schematic for the 1996, only 1994 and earlier.. i've traced the wiring and find the color codes to be nearly identical as the 1994 model, with one exception... the lead into the motor from the fusebox is both a different color and also apparently originates someplace other than the older version...anyone have any info as to the power source's origins on the 1996 model or possibly a wiring diagram that shows the heater wiring for the 1996? thanks....

Welcome to FTE!

A few quick questions:

1. Have you checked the fuses in both the passenger compartment box and engine compartment box?

2. Is your climate control manual or automatic? If manual, does it have AC?

fuses..

yes, all fuses check out as good and carrying current thru them... based on the wiring diagram i have for the 1994 model, the pink/white (different color on the 1994) wire should be the power wire... ive removed the fusebox inside and taken the back cover off, no pink and white wire there...this truck has no a/c...as to the manual/automatic question, not really sure... the heater controls have 3 *****, fan on the left, red/blue temp setting in center and floor/intermediate/defrost on the right....

additioly...

also, i forgot to mention, i do not have the owner's manual for this truck, so i'm not sure exactly which fuse is the heater fuse... on the 94 model diagram it is shown as the #9 fuse, but as its a much lower amperage than the heater should take, i dont believe this is the same on the 95+ models... any idea which fuse the owner's manual shows as proper for the later models?

My Ford Manual shows a relay box being fed by two BK/LG wires, one originating from the engine compartment fuse box and the other from the passenger compartment fuse box. The PK/W wire runs from the relay box to the blower motor.

The relay box is located in the very front of the engine compartment, passenger side.

got it fixed...

Rock, you da man!!! found the relay box where ya said to look, unbolted it, etc. and found the main power input (larger guage BK/GR wire) from the underhood fuse panel was corroded (green as grass) and had broken loose from the relay socket.... removed the old wire end from the relay socket, cleaned and trimmed the power lead and soldered a new wire end on, put it all back together and it works!!! now i dont hafta run with the window down part way to keep the windshield from fogging up...lol...ty, ty, ty...
