i just finished my new motor, 2000 3.0 in a 91 ranger. i used the distributor and all the other ignition and wiring from the 91, used upper intake from 2000 cause it flows much better as everyone here knows, has jba headers, flowmaster, new cat, custom grind camshaft, all new accell coil, cap, rotor, underdrive pulley, adjustable fuel regulator, flowmatched injectors, rogue performance heat spacer for intake, ford motorsport 9mm wires, new o2 sensor. it fired right up, but is running extremely rich, blows black smoke out of exhaust. i set the fuel reg. to factory specs and also the timing to factory specs. it isn't even drivable. could it be the cam. the guy who built it said the computer would learn the grind on it and it would not be a problem. could it be? very frustrating! please if anyone has any ideas please respond. thanks.
The injectors you are using, are they the stock ('91) size?
no, they are the stock ones from the 2000, but as far as i know they should be the same,14lb. injectors. i have read that all the 3.0 have the 14lbs. injectors. it is possible that i could be wrong. i haven't checked the codes. i was going to take it to autozone but it won't run so i am out of luck.
Many of the '00 vulcans that were made were put into flex fuel vehicles. If your donor 3.0L came from a FFV, then it has bigger injectors than the regular gasoline vulcan.
