Sputtering/Popping/Missing
Bank #1 Rich
Bank #1 Lean
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas? Injectors? I just put New Cap/Rotor/Plugs & Wires/Fuel Filter/Air Filter. Made Sure ALL connections are good, I did a Node Test and wiring to the injectors are getting signal, Fuel pressure is good... If anyone has had this problem, please tell me about it, or any ideas are appreciated.
sounds like the same problem I had. Check your Mass-Airflow-Sensor. Disconnect the battery, then remove connector from MAF. Wait a few minutes, then reconnect battery. While driving, Check Engine light will stay on but engine should run stable in "Emergency Mode"(if the MAF is the problem). That's how my shop diagnosed the problem a few years ago and they were right. Good luck!

I suspected the MAF but Ford dealers (in the US) said: "oh no, it cannot be, they never fail, we don't even stock them, blabla..."

I had simlar problems on my '93 Aerostar 4.0l.
I spent weeks trying to track it down by testing the MAF,
replacing the idle air control valve, etc.
It turned out to be a vacuum leak.
There are about 4 vacuum hoses attached to the back drivers
side of the engine. One hose had fallen off, which created
a lean running problem. The only codes that showed up
were: Left bank lean indication.
When I fixed the vacuum leak, the engine now runs Great.
Still going strong at 147,000 miles

I had sputtering and stalling. After paying a small
fortune, and 4 trips to the dealer an old guy took
a look. Did the first think I should have, put a vacumn
gage on it, had a leak. Pulled the hose between the
engine and the modulator, trans fluid.
He explained it this way (IIRC): The modulator springs
a leak, tranny fluid gets sucked out of the tranny.
The vacumn hoses don't have clamps and are a lose
fit until the vacumn sucks them down. If you're lucky
the tranny fluid will expand the hoses (incompatible)
and you'll get the vacumn leak and someone with some
sense will figure it out quick. If you're medium lucky
(like me) the mechanics will have you back 4 times,
replacing some expensive item each time (like the MAF)
before some sensible mechanic figures it out. If you're
really unlucky your tranny will be sucked dry (or close
enough) and you'll need a tranny too.
Any way apparently these modulators do die and cause
all sorts of odd problems (does you tranny up/downshift
correctly? Mine didn't but I wasn't the main driver
so I didn't know). Take a look and see if there is
tranny fluid past the modualtor. Replace all your
vacumn hoses if there is (along with the modulator).
Modulator is easy to check (I guess), it should hold
a vacumn...
good luck
