Carburetor Fireball

on my 82 f-150, after a recent carb switch its started shooting a fireball from the throat. i don't know whether its the accelerator pump on the front of the car, a sticking float or what..but it won't run right when it finally does start, it studders. It won't idle, only runs when i give it the gas, the timing hasn't changed and i've reconnected every vaccum hose that was removed from the carb during switch...whats the deal?

TIA

Tim

Same thing happened to me after a complete carburetor rebuild. This is what I did. First I cut a piece of brass shim stock to cover the EGR plate between the EGR valve and carb spacer. I then plugged the vacuum line to the EGR valve. Truck ran a lot better but still did not shift right (automatic). Changed vacuum modulator on transmission. It runs like new now.
