I have an '85 F-150 with 219k on the original engine. I've had it since new, and have changed the oil almost every 3k, but as with anything mechanical, it's getting tired. My question is should I have this engine rebuilt, or go with a reman from Ford, Jasper, or the like. It's a daily driver, so hot performance is not critical. Any input or experience would be appreciated
Well if you are handy with tools then I would suggest rebuilding it yourself, to save money on the labor.
I have dealt with Jasper in the past and have been more than happy with them. They go thru the engine from front to rear, and replace anything that needs it. Jasper puts out a quality product but they are a little on high side.
I would rebuild your motor since you know it's history and it was well taken care of. This probably means minimal machine work on the crank and block. You don't know what a remanufactured engine has been through.
If you don't mind being without the truck for a little while, I recommend having your motor rebuilt. Only problem is finding someone who is very knowledgable and can rebuild with a good time and price.

I'd say rebuild what you've got. All the parts are there, everything will match up when you get it back, and there will be no, "Hey, where did this bolt hole come from?"
I would have to agree with some of the above posts. You know the history of the motor and it sounds as if you have taken care of it. Rebuild it and see if you can get another 217k
Thanks for the input guys, although ok city is a little too far from va for a rebuild. I've been leaning toward the rebuild, but I was concerned that my little mill had too many miles for that, but I guess I was wrong. Thanks again, and now the search is on for a good rebuilder.
I wouldn't touch a Jasper engine with a ten foot pole!!!!
I know the factory, it's anti labor practices and the bastich they call their president. He's an egomaniacal twerp who would sell his own mother for a profit, they survive because they drop a great warranty on a for ***** product. Try to get warranty satisfaction some time, absolute junk, remanufactured my a$$, just a production line overhaul pure and simple.
